With your support, our vision of dignity for all can be realized.
Thanks to all of you we officially reached our goal! Not only that but because of the great response we have been able to order twice as much as we planned!! The artwork has been sent to the manufacturer and hopefully we’ll have the product in our hands by mid April! We are so grateful to all of you for pitching in. Looks like the physical album is certainly not dead!
Now with an album printed, and some posters, the next logical step is the live show. We’ll start playing out this April so if you are in the Ontario area or want a road trip keep your eyes on our web site and Facebook page to see where we’ll be. We hope to see you at one of them! Thanks again!!

Exciting news! ‘New Start to Start‘, our first official music video has been released! The video was filmed at various locations in both Toronto & Cambridge, Ontario (Canada) on very cold days in early February 2011. Do you recgonize any of the outdoor locations? Special thanks to Jesse Blight (Cinematographer), Liana Yates (Photographer), Mark Sturge (Photographer), Ana Rajcan and Kyleen Watson (Hair & Makeup). Glenn’s parents as well (Glen & Joan) for letting us use their home as one of our shoot locations!
Almost exactly one year ago we recorded and released our first album, Under Skies, using our musician/barista savings to fund the project. We have some very talented friends who we had the privilege of working with throughout the project which made for an album that sounds much better than we would have imagined.
Once finished we did an online only release of Under Skies through iTunes and Amazon and other various online outlets. The industry tells us that this is how everyone is buying their music, but it seems that many of our fans like to buck the trends and we are right there with you! We also still prefer the tangible CD to the intangible ones and zeros.
How do we know you like to buck the trends? Well, one of the most common questions we receive is “Where can I buy an actual CD?” If we can pull off this project on Kickstarter and you pitch in with $15 or more your question is answered. You will have the CD shipped right from our door to yours!
If you wish to help out in a bigger way, there are all sorts of reward options available! Even your own private home concert!
Access our Kickstarter project via the new widget on our website’s sidebar! Thank-you for your support!
Nice! We made honorable mention for Best Albums of 2010 along with Josh Ritter, Jars Of Clay, and Johnny Cash!
Hark the Herons
Under Skies (independent)
Released May 2010
Style: Inventive alternative folk; compare to Sufjan Stevens, Welcome Wagon, Feist
Top tracks: “Bend, Break,” “Layers of Unknown,” “You’re Pretty but You’re Hollow”
After more than a decade of helping his band, downhere, make critically acclaimed albums in the CCM market, bass player Glenn Lavender and longtime friend Kalyn Allan, both of Cambridge, Ontario, teamed up for a side project—and it’s a good one. What started out as a whim—they tried to write a song for a made-for-TV movie, but were beaten out by Michael Buble—turned into a year of songwriting and now an album that would be fit nicely on Sufjan Stevens’ Asthmatic Kitty label. Creative melodies, thoughtful lyrics celebrating love both human and divine, and Allan’s mesmerizing vocals add up to what one can only hope is the first of many CDs from Hark the Herons.
